The Trekboers
These people, always the dispair of the authorities in Cape Town, were of the breed of pioneers who, on their own initiative and quite contrary to the wishes of government, constantly expanded the frontiers in an attempt to keep one step ahead of the tax-gatherer. He, however, inevitably followed after them. (Bulpin p431, 1992)
